What Is SSH ?

Secure Shell is a cryptographic network protocol for operating network services securely over an unsecured network connection. It is used for secure connection between a client and a server.

SSH server is not available in Ubuntu 18.04. You need to install it in Ubuntu. We can easily get it from Ubuntu repositories.

Open your terminal and run the following command to install SSH server in Ubuntu.

sudo apt update
sudo apt install openssh-server

Enter the password when prompted and enter Y to continue the SSH installation in Ubuntu. After process is done, SSH service will start automatically.  Run the following command to check SSH server status:

sudo systemctl status ssh

Right after installation is done, you can easily connect to your Ubuntu 18.04. Run the following command in your terminal to connect to your machine:

ssh username@ip_address
