What is add-apt0-repository command?

add-apt-repository is a command line utility which is used to add Personal Package Archive or PPA in Ubuntu and Debian based operating system.

Fix add-apt-repository command not found issue on Debian & Ubuntu

In order to install add-apt-repository command on Ubuntu & Debian you need to install software-properties-common package in your system. Open your terminal and run the following command to install software-properties-common package in Ubuntu & Debian. This command will fix add-apt-repository command not found issue on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and Ubuntu 14.04.

sudo apt-get install -y software-properties-common

Fix add-apt-repository command not found on Ubuntu 13.10 and Older:

For older version of Ubuntu like Ubuntu v13.10 or older, the add-apt-repository command is available on python-software-properties package. Hence, you need to Install python-software-properties package. Run the terminal and execute the following command:

sudo apt-get install -y python-software-properties

Now, you can easily add PPA using the add-apt-repository command on Ubuntu.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:omgfoss.com/ppa
