Insight: Install Linux Kernel 4.16 on Ubuntu 17.10 and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
In this tutorial, we will show you the simple method to install linux kernel 4.16 on Ubuntu 17.10, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and it’s derivatives.
Meanwhile, you can check the version of kernel in your Ubuntu by using following command:
sudo uname -r
How to install Linux kernel 4.16 on Ubuntu 17.10 and 16.04 LTS
This tutorial works for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) or Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) along with it’s derivatives like Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu MATE.
Before proceeding to installation process, you need to downlaod the kernel including headers for your system.
Downlaod the two files and save it to a folder on your ubuntu desktop. Now you need to start a terminal and browse into the location of the folder where you have saved the kernel files. After that, type the following command:
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Wait for a while so that new kernel will get installed in your ubuntu. Important things that you should note down is that some of the modules might not work with this kernel and along with this you won’t receive any updates from the ubuntu automatically. You need to download the new version or updates and install it manually.
