You might confused why do GitHub need to block them but Microsoft-owned platform has been forced to block developers from those specific countries, facing US trade sanctions.

GitHub has blocked all Iranian accounts without any prior notice, leaving  number of developers dillema as they are not even allowed to download a backup of our data.

In a tweet reply to developer Hamed Saeed, Nat Friedman ( C.E.O of GitHub) said that:

It is painful for me to hear how trade restrictions have hurt people. We have gone to great lengths to do no more than what is required by the law, but of course people are still affected. GitHub is subject to US trade law, just like any company that does business in the US.
