First thing that you should know before installing cinnamon 3.0 is that it is not available to install on Ubuntu through its official PPA so you need to help of community PPA.
So let’s begin to install cinnamon on your ubuntu system. Begin it by opening a new Terminal window and enter the following commands to add the stable Cinnamon PPA and fetch the packages.
To add the PPA and install Cinnamon 3.0 in Ubuntu 16.04 or 15.10, use the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:embrosyn/cinnamon sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install cinnamon cinnamon-core
Once process is completed, log out and restart you system and select Cinnamon from the login screen.
If you have problem with your shutdown option after installing Cinnamon, Use command below to fix the issue:
gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.session settings-daemon-uses-logind true gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.session session-manager-uses-logind true gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.session screensaver-uses-logind false
If you are done by using cinnamon and wanted to remove Cinnamon:
Firstly remove the PPA:
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/embrosyn-cinnamon*.list
Then, Remove Cinnamon with the command below:
sudo apt purge cinnamon* libcinnamon* nemo* libnemo-extension1 cjs libcjs0e blueberry gir1.2-cinnamondesktop-3.0 gir1.2-meta-muffin-0.0 libmuffin0 muffin-common
sudo apt autoremove
