Install OpenJDK 11 In Ubuntu 18.04/16.04/14.04 And Linux Mint 19/18/17

Insight: Install OpenJDK 11 In Ubuntu 18.04/16.04/14.04 And Linux Mint 19/18/17 

Let’s see the method to install OpenJDK in Ubuntu and Linux Mint. Meanwhile,  openjdk-11-jdk package is already available in the repositories, but it’s with Java 10 not Java 11.

Install OpenJDK 11

Install OpenJDK 11 In Ubuntu 18.04/16.04/14.04 And Linux Mint 19/18/17

Let’s run the following command to install OpenJDK:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:openjdk-r/ppa
sudo apt update
sudo apt install openjdk-11-jdk

Run the following command if you only need Java JRE:

sudo apt install openjdk-11-jre

Meanwhile, Run the following command to remove the openjdk installed from the repository and roll back to the default version:

For Ubuntu:

sudo apt install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:openjdk-r/ppa

For Linux Mint:

sudo ppa-purge -d <corresponding_ubuntu_version_for_Mint> ppa:openjdk-r/ppa

For Ubuntu 18.10 or new version:

They already have OpenJDK 11 in the repositories. So run the following command  to install it:

sudo apt install openjdk-11-jdk
