Ubuntu 17.10(Artful Aardvark) is about to go available soon in the market. It has been reported that Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) will be released on October 19, 2017.
As usual, This version of ubuntu has short lifespan and will be supported for 9 months until July 2018. Currently Ubuntu 16.04 (LTS) is being available in the market and the next Long Term Support Ubuntu will be 18.04 (LTS). The LTS versions are usually supported for 5 years.

How To Upgrade from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10(Artful Aardvark)
To upgrade on a desktop system:
First update your current ubuntu 17.04 with this command:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade && sudo apt-get autoremove
and follow the below steps:
Open the “Software & Updates” Setting in System Settings.
- Select the “Updates” tab. On that panel, set the “Notify me of a new Ubuntu version” drop-down menu to “For any new version”
- Press Alt+F2 and type in
- Update Manager should open up and tell you: New distribution release ‘17.10’ is available.
- If not you can also use “/usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/check-new-release-gtk”
- Click Upgrade.
To upgrade on a server system:
Install the update-manager-core package if it is not already installed.
sudo apt-get install update-manager-core
Make sure the Prompt line in /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades is set to normal.
sudo nano /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades
Launch the upgrade tool with the command .
sudo do-release-upgrade -d
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
